    Pituitary Diseases

    What is the Pituitary?

The pituitary is a gland about the size of a pea located at the base of your skull. Despite its small size, it has some big jobs. The pituitary gland secretes hormones that control the thyroid, growth, temperature, urine production, and reproductive functions including testosterone production in males and estrogen production in females. Click here for more information about the pituituary gland.

    Pituitary Disorders

Injuries or pituitary tumors are two causes of pituitary disorders. Pituitary disorders occur when the gland produces too much or too little of a hormone. These hormonal imbalances can be felt throughout the body, affecting everything from muscle mass to metabolism to fertility.

    Treatment for Pituitary Disorders

Novant Health South Charlotte Endocrinology offers a variety of options for managing or treating pituitary disorders, including hormone therapy, and in some cases, radiation or surgery. Your treatment plan will be highly individualized and based on your personal health history and hormone needs.
